The Gardeners of Venice

Garden State

The rain is pattering, monkeys are hooting, frogs are croaking, crickets are chirruping. No, this isn’t the Amazon; this is the Teatro Fondamenta Nuove in Venice where the Frankfurt dance collective MAMAZA built a rainforest. It is part of Performing Architecture, the Goethe-Institut’s contribution to the Architecture Exhibition. And it is transitory: the artists asked Venetians to lend them their flowerpots. Garden State is arranged to look like the map of Venice.
