Open to Interpretation

ApocalyptiCAT
Copyright: Franca Bartholomäi

What does the apocalypse look like? Like a plump, well-fed cat, the ApocalyptiCAT. The exhibition by the same name at the Goethe-Institut Washington presented woodcuts and papercuts by the artist (and cat lover) Franca Bartholomäi on the theme of apocalypse. Bartholomäi sees it not as the end of the world, but a revelation. But whatever the end-of-days cat in her graphic art really signifies is open to each viewer’s interpretation.
