Hanoi Takes a Different Beat
Classical ballet meets street dance, arms covered in tattoos and a grating disco beat. In Hanoi Stardust, the audience is confronted with new forms of expression in ballet – practically unheard of in Vietnam, which was only recently still highly influenced by classical Russian ballet. Commissioned by the Goethe-Institut, the German choreographer Arco Renz rehearsed the three-part piece over many weeks with five dancers from the Vietnam National Opera Ballet and two street dancers. Now, the performance also came to Germany and Belgium.
