The Golden Dragon

No, it’s certainly not light fare being served to us by playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig in his Asian diner. A Chinese man without a residence permit has a tooth pulled with a pipe wrench, a woman is forced into prostitution and both cases end fatally. “The Golden Dragon” is the name of both the diner and the play. Now Schimmelpfennig’s social drama about the parallel world of immigrants without rights was performed in Uzbekistan as a co-production by the Ilkhom Theatre and the Goethe-Institut Tashkent.
