What is a podcast?

A podcast is a way of distributing multimedia files (as audio or video files) using the internet for playback on mobile devices. The distribution format usually is RSS or Atom Syndication formats. The term “podcast” can also refer to the content. The host or author of a podcast is often referred to as a "podcaster". Podcast websites enable their users to subscribe to the site, so that the current episodes of the podcast are downloaded automatically to the computer of the user.

How does podcasting work?

The Goethe-Institut podcasts actually support every software designed to make podcasts available (so-called Podcatcher), designed for the format RSS 2.0. Since we tested our podcasts with Apple iTunes (version 6 and higher) and juice, we would recommend using these two softwares. Apple and juice are free, you can download them here:

How do I download the podcast?
