Thessaloniki - Berlin
Close up 2016

Deutschland-Griechenland Grafik: Goethe-Institut

The Goethe-Institut’s Close-Up programme enables cultural journalists from the print, online and radio media to swap workplaces with a colleague from abroad for three to four weeks. In autumn 2016, Fotini Gioltzidou reported for Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich. Her counterpart: Patrizia Schlosser for ERT Thessaloniki in Thessaloniki.

Participants

Fotini Gioltzidou Fotini Gioltzidou

Radio and television journalist for ERT Thessaloniki
Host medium: Bayrischer Rundfunk in Munich
Time of stay: December 2016
Would like to report on: I am looking forward to getting to know new people, to seeing how they live and how they work and what the arts and culture mean to them.
How I’ve perceived my host country until now: Do the people in Germany really know what the financial crisis means? Are they happy to live in Germany, in a city that a river flows through, but where the sea is far away?
I do not want to talk about Greece’s debt crisis – I live in the midst of it. Let’s talk instead about what unites us.

Patrizia Schlosser

Patrizia Schlosser

Freie Fernseh- und Radio-Journalistin (Bayern 2, Bayerisches Fernsehen, ARD)
Host medium: ERT Thessaloniki in Thessaloniki
Time of stay: Autumn 2016
Would like to report on: The leftist squatter scene, the refugees’ situation, and, I hope, on a lot of things I have yet to learn about.
How I’ve perceived my host country until now: All I read is crisis, crisis, crisis – what else is happening?!
