The two films tell different stories of the war, but particularly stories of survival: Saturday Morning Gift is about a child who survived the war in Lebanon. Ma'a Al-Fidda – Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait, is remarkable for its genesis. Safely in exile in Paris, but driven by his love for his homeland of Syria, Ossama Mohammed can only film the sky and edit together snippets that he uploads to YouTube. When a young woman from Homs sends him an email and asks what he would film if he was in Homs, they embark on an intimate exchange with one another.
