Goethe-Institut Damascus in Exile

Actors Juliane Köhler and Aurel Manthei read extracts from the play Your Love is Fire by Syrian author Mudar al Haggi that was written in exile in Berlin. The play tells of everyday life in Damascus, shattered by civil war, and the hopelessness of a soldier who sees no solution other than to desert. In desperation he turns to the playwright himself and starts trying to negotiate his situation in the play with his “creator.”
The play is part of a new series of international contemporary drama called WORLD / STAGE that is currently being developed in collaboration with the Residenztheater in Munich under the dramaturgy of Laura Olivi.
