Goethe-Institut Damascus in Exile

Our women’s film evening kicks off with the story of Khaldiya. She is one of the girls who began to record her world on film at a workshop in the Al Zaatari refugee camp. The short documentary Another Kind of Girl is just one of the many poignant videos that were created as part of the project. This will be followed by a discussion with project director Laura Doggett and director Khaldiya Jibawi via a live digital link.

The discussion will be followed by a showing of the documentary film Queens of Syria by Yasmin Fedda. The director accompanies 60 women from a Jordanian refugee camp during their first contact with theatre. In staging their own adaptation of the anti-war drama The Trojan Women, the women talk about their past and experiences and discover a new solidarity and cohesion during rehearsals.
