THE KRIMI – GERMAN CRIME FICTION IN BRITAIN

Panel discussion with Kerstin Schuster, Thomas Wörtche | Chaired by: Günter Keil

“Ohne Krimi geht die Mimi nie ins Bett” (Mimi never goes to bed without her thriller) and that doesn’t just mean in German-speaking countries. In the British crime novel scene the “Deutschicrime” is enjoying a surge in popularity. After a long period of Scandinavian authors dominating the genre in Britain as well, there is now talk of a new trend. Kerstin Schuster, who is responsible for international rights at Droemer Knaur Verlag, talks to Thomas Wörtche, crime fiction expert and editor of his own series at Suhrkamp Verlag, about this trend. What’s behind this new fascination? What makes the German crime thriller different from its Scandinavian counterparts? Chaired by: Günter Keil (Munich), journalist
