Gonçalo M. Tavares

Gonçalo M. Tavares was born in 1970 in Luanda. He is a Portuguese author and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Lisbon. He has been publishing novels, short stories and poetry, as well as children’s books and plays, since 2001. His literary works have been published in more than 50 countries and have received many awards. His best-known novels include Joseph Walsers Maschine (2003) (Joseph Walser's Machine 2004) and Die Versehrten (2005), which was originally entitled Jerusalém (Jerusalem 2005). He received the José Saramago Prize for Young Authors in 2005 for Jerusalem.
He also received numerous national and international awards. These include the Prémio Telecom de Literatura em Língua Portuguesa in Brazil, the Prix du meilleur livre étranger in France in 2010 as well as the Prix Littéraire Européen in 2011.
