Breaking the Isolation
Leipzig Book Fair 2018

Friday, 16 March, 2.00 – 3.00 Uhr pm

panel discussion (English)

How do translators in Romania, Argentina and elsewhere organize networks and other initiatives?

Literary translators talk about their work as activists on behalf of their profession.

Working day and night at their desks with only books and cats for company, literary translators sometimes have to go to great lengths to get organized and overcome professional isolation. From strikes to letterwriting campaigns to hashtag activism – what stories do they have to tell, what have they achieved in their countries, and what can we learn from them?
