Professor Fügener is an expert for transportation design and as such he gave a two day workshop on this topic as part of the educational program of the exhibition “Driven by German Design”. “Volkswagen invited me as part of an educational design concept and we wanted to hold a workshop in the exhibition in Qatar. The workshop was all about the future of dynamic driving, wherein electric and autonomous driving will be the driving factors.” Prof Fügener explained during the workshop in Doha.

During two evenings he gave an introduction into transportation design and worked with the group of six German students and 15 chosen designers from Doha on an actual project by Porsche. “Porsche has always been committed to providing a unique driving experience and we needed to do this in a modern way to keep people interested in the project. We also plan to further develop the 550 Spyder for year 2050 that was a light environment friendly car with a small engine.

Senior Interior Architect Said Akoury with a background in car design was one of the lucky 15 designers from Doha that participated in the workshop: “I was excited to hear about this exhibition, as my background is in car design. I am really impressed by the team and the professor. Porsche is a leading icon and the elements displayed here are very unique.” And another participant Avantika Mohapatra continued, “This workshop has been an educational and informative experience for me and I am so glad I could partake in this.

And also the students Pforzheim University of Design were thrilled to be a part of the sessions and to engage in a dialogue with their counterparts from Doha. Professor Fügener summarized the idea of the workshop: “Globalization is the best way to achieve what you want and so we are here in Doha. It has been a great experience conducting the workshop as the students are from different backgrounds and hold unique perspectives. This has been a great representation of ‘People connected by Design’.
