Qatar Germany 2017
Football meets Culture
As part of the Qatar Germany 2017 the German Football Ambassador and the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee organized a women’s football match in partnership with the German Embassy and the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region.
Roland Bischof, Founder of German Football Ambassador, expressed his excitement about being in Doha with 25 German female players and their supporting crew: “We are happy to participate in this inter-cultural match and I hope everyone will gain a positive experience from this game.”
Esther Franke, one of the German players emphasized the topics equality and women’s rights in the context of women’s football: “We were super excited to be here and find out more about women’s football in Qatar. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other and see what football can do to strengthen the relationship between Qatar and Germany. There is immense potential in meeting each other and empowering ourselves as women to pursue what we feel most passionately about – to play football.”
And Christine Langer from Discover Football Club (DFC) in Berlin concluded that meeting the Qatari women’s football team was a step to help expand their network: “It was good to learn what it’s like for women to play football in Qatar and also to learn about the existing infrastructure built to encourage women’s football. We are waiting to invite the Qatari team to our festival next year in Berlin.”
After 90 minutes of fair but intense fights for the ball the German team won 7 to 3 against the team of the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee.
