Get ready for the first edition of the GULF GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL in Oman and a riveting program of recent German cinema and international co-productions, ranging from art-house films to box-office hits, and from family matinees to late-night movies. The star-studded event invites an audience of all stripes.
The majority of the population in the Gulf Region are foreigners. While some expats or migrants enjoy a decent standard of living, menial work is exclusively done by migrant workers from South Asia, Africa and the Philippines. We see these migrant workers on construction sites or as service providers. Where do they go after a long working day? How do they spend their sparce leisure time?
The dynamism and innovation of the electro scenes in Berlin and Paris need no introduction. In a workshop in December 2019 artists from France and Germany shared their talent and technique with youth and adults devoted to the discovery of electronic music production and DJing. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance of the United Arab Emirates, in celebration of the “Year of Tolerance 2019”, the German Embassy in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut show a series of films revolving around different aspects of tolerance. German magazine DiscoverME in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut in Abu Dhabi have published a special issue “YEAR OF ZAYED” dedicated to the German-Emirati relations, with a focus on the lifetime and governance of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The project Books – Made in UAE supports the development of a sustainable local children’s book industry by training young and aspiring authors and illustrators in the creative process of producing children’s books in Emirati Arabic language.
The Artist in Residence program fosters the development of the Omani art scene, and its outreach activities provide the guest artists with excellent preconditions to getting acquainted with Omani artists, culture and society.
