Workshop by choreographer and dancer Eric Gauthier

Everyone can dance - and dancing simply makes you happy! Eric Gauthier not only wants people to watch, but also to get people moving. Neither perfection nor performance are required - it is about feeling the body differently and consciously. After an extensive warm-up, Eric Gauthier creates a four to five minute choreography. Very important: The participants can and should contribute with their own suggestions and movement sequences. At the end, there is a choreography that is as individual as the workshop group - and an unforgettable common experience.

About the artist

Eric Gauthier, Artistic Director Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart & COLOURS International Dance Festival

It only took Eric Gauthier a few years to make it from charismatic soloist of the Stuttgart Ballet to high-profile international choreographer and artistic director of one of Germany´s most successful companies - Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart.

Top companies worldwide have taken Gauthier´s works into their repertoire, amongst others the Staatsballett Berlin, the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Ballet, the Stuttgart Ballet, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam or Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam. He also collaborates with stars from the world of music, devising a stage show for „panda rapper“ Cro, the hit movie Mackie Messer – Brechts Dreigroschenfilm from 2018, the Keep on Dancing 2021 campaign by the fashion company Marc Cain or the Grand Show ARISE at Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin. As a presenter and dance expert himself in front of the camera, Gauthier appears in the SWR documentary film series Dance Around the World, which takes the TV audience to the world's major dance metropolises. The first episode was filmed in Tel Aviv and aired on television in July 2020. After an interruption due to Covid-19, the second episode about the ballet country Russia, in which Gauthier was guided by world stars Diana Vishneva through St. Petersburg and Sergei Polunin through Moscow, is in production. Further shoots in Holland and London are planned for spring 2022.

As if the meteoric rise of his company weren´t enough, Gauthier has now also made a name for himself as a festival organizer: In the summer of 2015, the premiere edition of COLOURS International Dance Festival, conceived by Gauthier and produced by Theaterhaus Stuttgart, took the public, the media and the dance world by storm. Eric Gauthier is currently experiencing strong recognition for another pioneering initiative: The Dying Swans Project. The 16 solos, one for each company member, provided 16 choreographers, 16 composers and filmmakers - a total of 64 artists - commissions in difficult times. The project, financed with support of the Daimler network “be a mover” and numerous organizers, exceeded all expectations and received a lot of media attention, right up to the Federal President. The visually stunning 16 video clips have been available online for free since April 2021 - on the Theaterhaus Stuttgart YouTube channel and, thanks to the partnership with ZDF / 3sat, in the 3sat media library. The awards include two Golden Prague Television Awards 2021 and a nomination for the Rose d'Or Award 2021 in the "Arts" category.

As the son of a leading Alzheimer´s researcher, Eric Gauthier has acquired an awareness for social issues early on. With Gauthier Dance Mobile, the company brings contemporary dance to youth centres, hospitals or to old people´s homes. Eric Gauthier was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg and is a member of the board of trustees of the Alzheimer´s Foundation Baden-Wuerttemberg. In April 2015, Eric Gauthier was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg for his artistic and social commitment.
