„Deutsch Lehren Lernen (DLL)“ is an innovative professional learning program of the Goethe-Institut. Offering further training, it answers fundamental questions regarding the teaching of German as an additional language. The 10-week online courses offer a variety of subjects, and are designed for teachers of German who are looking for professional learning utilising the latest training methods and the newest materials. Applications for DLL 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 10 are now open.

TARGET GROUP
School teachers of German in Australia with at least level B2 of German. Test your German here.
  

DLL1: Teaching competence and lesson planning
As teachers, we determine what happens in the classroom. What is it that shapes us? What ideas about good teaching do we bring with us? What are the special challenges of teaching? How do we manage to create a fear-free, motivating and learning-promoting atmosphere in the class? How do we control the processes in the classroom and how do we accompany the learners on their way? How can we develop professionally as teachers?

DLL 2: How do you learn the foreign language German?
The learners themselves and everything they bring to the classroom influences the teaching and learning process. The better we know our learners, the better we can plan our teaching activities towards.

DLL 3: German as a foreign language 
This unit focuses on the language we teach itself. What is characteristic of German in terms of its vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and practical use? What must we know in order to explain to students how German works so that communication is possible? How is German presented in learning materials and how can we best teach vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation?

DLL 4: Assignments, Exercises and Interaction
Assignments, exercises, and interaction in the classroom are ways to practice using the language in the real world. This unit shows you what this looks like in the modern language classroom by means of speaking and writing.

DLL5: Learning materials and media
You will deal with the use of teaching materials and media and learn how to prepare texts for specific target groups. You will deal with modern and digital teaching materials and analyze how the use of social media can support language learning.

DLL6: Curricular guidelines and lesson planning
What do we rely on when we plan our lessons, which concepts of teaching objectives/competencies are our actions based on? How do we plan a lesson unit, what are the ideas of a meaningful sequence in the lesson? The way in which we plan lessons is influenced by framework guidelines and didactic-methodical principles.

DLL 7: Assessment tools

What function do assessments (e.g. tests, exams, etc.) serve and what principles and standards should they adhere to? How do we develop effective assessment tools for our own classrooms? How do we use the results of these tools to improve the learning process? These are the questions we explore in this unit.

DLL 8: German for Children
The focal points of this unit are language acquisition and the learning process of early childhood, facets of developmental psychology, skill-building, and, above all, methodological and didactic aspects of teaching children

DLL 10: German for Children
German for teens is specifically designed for German teachers of adolescents ages 12 to 19. This unit explores the latest findings in scientific research regarding cognitive, physical, social, and linguistic developmental processes in adolescents, and their relevance to language learning. Results of a survey of teenagers illustrate the role of motivation in the learning process as well as their ideas about what makes a good German teacher.

DURATION AND TIME COMMITMENT
The training program lasts 10 weeks and is conducted exclusively on the learning platform of the Goethe-Institut. The time commitment per week is approximately 9 hours, approximately 90 hours in total. As part of the program, teachers will conduct a practical project in their regular school practice.

COST
A full scholarship includes the registration cost and the course materials.

CERTIFICATE
Upon successful completion of the course and submission of the practical project documentation, participants will receive a Goethe-Institut certificate with a score.
