Jan Bauer Jan Bauer

Book author Jan Bauer who lives in Hamburg will be presented as part of the Brisbane Writers Festival 2015. He will read from his first graphic novel “The Salty River”. The book was firstly published in 2014 and has already found an Australian publisher who will launch the English version “The Salty River” in August 2015.

The autobiographical novel deals with Jan’s journey through the Outback of Australia, which he starts after experiencing several strokes of fate in his private life at home in Germany. On his remarkable walking route from Alice Springs to Yuendumu he intends to escape his everyday life and sort himself out. On his way he meets a young woman from France who completely mixes up his plans.
It turns out that the lonesome self-discovery trip of Jan develops into a little love story, which shows that it is not always possible to plan life in advance -  sometimes it breaks unknown new ground all by itself.

Jan Bauer was born 1976 in the village of Preetz in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. After his studies in Hamburg and Brisbane he now works in Hamburg as an illustrator and an animated cartoons and illustration lecturer.
