Berlin-born photographer Helmut Newton is renowned for his provocative, controversial and technically brilliant photography. The man behind iconic images of Grace Jones, Claudia Schiffer, Isabella Rossellini, Charlotte Rampling, and even Margaret Thatcher, his work appeared in leading international fashion magazines from Vanity Fair to Vogue, including more than 60 covers for Vogue Italia. During the course of his five-decade career, he became regarded as one of the world’s leading photographers. A prolific image-maker and genuine visionary – whose daring work bought him both fortune and notoriety – he continues to prove a major influence on modern photography and visual art.

Helmut Newton: In Focus delves into Newton's early life, shining a light on his Jewish roots and youth in Berlin , his flight from Germany at the outbreak of WWII and his internment at Tatura in regional Victoria as enemy alien. It explores his post-war life in Melbourne and shares details about his relationship with June Newton, actress, artist and photographer who worked under the pseudonym Alice Springs.
