„Totally East“ – the title says it all. This poster exhibition powerfully portrays the status quo of the GDR with snapshots of the people living there.

Harald Hauswald’s photos take us on a journey through time. The pictures illustrate among other things loneliness, authority and rebellion but also take into account rare moments of endearment and serenity. His photography is not so much subversive as it is a declaration of love to the people of the GDR.
The photographer is a founding member of the renowned OSTKREUZ photographer agency.

The exhibition presents more than 100 photos by Harald Hauswald on 20 panels, some previously unseen. The texts of the exhibition were written by the historian and author Stefan Wolle, who, like the photographer, grew up in the GDR. The exhibition panels are equipped with QR codes that link to short video interviews on Youtube, in which the photographer reports on how and in what context the respective photo of the panel was taken.

Opening hours:
Mo to Thu: 10 am until 5 pm
Fr: 10 am until 3 pm

Please join us for the exhibition opening as part of the Melbourne German Week on 18 March 2018 from 4pm to 6pm!

Introductory remarks by Dr Gert Reifarth, a GDR eye witness.
