Biennale of Sydney, hosted by the Goethe-Institut

How do artists’ immediate surroundings inform their practice, and why do so many artists currently choose to live and work in Berlin? Join Biennale artists Vajiko Chachkhiani, Jota Mombaca and Andrew Rewald, as they discuss this and many other questions with Artistic Director of the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, Brook Andrew.

The artists will consider what it means to practice as a contemporary artist in a global context, what draws them to Berlin and the collaborative connections they have made through this vibrant city.

The 22nd Biennale of Sydney presents an expansive exhibition of contemporary art that connects local communities and global networks. The festival’s title is NIRIN, a Wiradjuri word meaning edge, describing a world of endless interconnected centres; a space to gather, to share, to rejoice, disrupt, re-imagine or pierce through dominant narratives to express a different kind of experience.
