A Talk About The Wulff Archive Project

Online

Jacqui Strecker, Head of Curatorial at the Powerhouse Museum, has the pleasure to present and introduce this talk by Prof. Pedram Khosronejad about Dr Hans Eberhard Wulff, a German-born engineer who was given an official position to go to Persia in the 1930s.

As part of a German foreign aid project for the Iranian government, Wulff’s role was to plan and set up schools for technical education. He established the first college in 1937 and prepared the encyclopaedia of Traditional Crafts, Technology, Science, Material Culture and Art of Persia.

During the Second World War, Wulff’s wife and children were sent back to Germany, while he, along with 500 other Germans who were working in Iran, were sent to Australia as war internees. Prof. Khosronejad will talk about the importance of his collection documenting traditional craft, art and technology in the Middle East as well as the untold history of the German civilians of Persia and their experiences in internment camps during wartime Australia.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A with Pedram Khosronejad, moderated by Jacqui Strecker.
