Theresa Schubert: Sound for Funghi

The Lock Up Gallery

Since it's inception in 1986, Experimenta has developed a worldwide reputation for fostering creativity that extends the aesthetic, conceptual and experimental potential of new art forms. As an organistion that continues to support new and emerging forms of contemporary practice, Experimenta is recognised as a learning hub of experimental art in Australia. and represents the melding of art and technology. In an age when technology permeates every aspect of daily life, Experimenta and the artists thy showcase seek to probe, analyse, innovate and inspire by blurring the lines between art, science and technology.

2021 sees the return of the International Triennial of Media Arts with the revolutionary exhibition Experimenta Life Forms which sets the stage for local and international artists to tackle concepts such as the origin and meaning of life through robotics, bio-art, audio-visual works, installations, participatory and generative art.

Berlin-based artist Theresa Schubert contributes to this awe inspiring body of works with her Sound for Fungi piece. Theresa Schubert has chosen live, organic material as her medium to create an interactive, generative video experience. By combining biological matter with digital technology she allows people to interact with the microscopic parts of fungi via tracking sensors, creating a unique soundscape.

Apart from being an artist, Theresa Schubert is also an educator and researcher whose publications have contributed greatly to academic discourse, especially in the fields of biotechnology and artificial intelligence.

This combination of art, technology and science offers a thrilling and immersive experience that will stimulate your senses and fire up your curiosity.

Experimenta Life Forms is a touring exhibition that will be shown throughout Australia at changing venues over the next 3 years.
