Audiovisual Essay Project

Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945–82) cherished his position as one of the most polarising and influential figures of the New German Cinema. This is the first major retrospective of Fassbinder's work to be staged in Australia. To allow for a complete presentation, including works based on Fassbinder's plays and those staring the director in principal roles, this program will be presented in two seasons. This is part one, part two will run from 1 June to 4 July 2018. The first part is subtitled "Gestures", concentrating on the performance aspect of Fassbinder's film and television work.

A few upcoming film screenings include Fassbinder (2015), Der Händler der vier Jahreszeiten (The Merchant of Four Seasons) (1971), Angst essen Seele auf (Fear Eats the Soul) (1973), Katzelmacher (1969), Der amerikanische Soldat (The American Soldier) (1970) and Welt am Draht (World on a Wire) (1973).
