Book Presentation and Talk

German playwright, essayist, theatre curator and novelist Sasha Marianna Salzmann comes to Australia for events at Melbourne & Canberra Writers’ Festivals, Sydney University and the Goethe-Institut in Sydney. She will present her most recent book Beside Myself (German: Außer Sich) and will be involved in talks and panels themed around gender, literature and theatre topics.

The Russian-born writer migrated to Germany in 1995 and has since then been awarded multiple accolades for her plays. Beside Myself was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2017 and was translated into 15 languages. Currently, Salzmann is writer-in-residence at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin and teaches creative writing in Germany, Turkey, Moldova, Spain, Italy and the USA.

The reading will be followed by the author in conversation with Dr Brangwen Stone, an expert on modern German literature and theatre. There will also be an opportunity for audience questions and discussion in English and German.
