Protests, Fall of the Wall, German Unity: The new exhibition at the Goethe-Institut in Melbourne shows the history, course and consequences of the peaceful revolution. 2019/2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the peaceful revolution and the reunification of Germany. The Federal Foundation for the processing of the SED dictatorship (Bundesstiftung für Aufarbeitung) created an exhibition on the historical-political significance of this formative time for Germany. The show includes 20 panels displaying over 100 historical photos and documents. The posters are translated into English.
The exhibition recalls the protest against the falsification of the GDR municipal elections, the summer commutation and the mass protests that brought the SED dictatorship to its knees. It reports on the self-democratisation of the GDR, German-German solidarity and foreign policy decisions pertaining to the regaining of German unity.
The Goethe-Institut presents this exhibition at its own premises at Level 1/448 St Kilda Road in Melbourne. You are welcome to visit the exhibition during regular office hours.
