Zaher Omareen

Zaher Omareen is a Syrian documentarist and researcher based in London. Omareen has PhD degree from London University in media and documentary cinema.
His work includes Two Stories (2013), about exile and different visual approaches to remembering conflict, and a documentary film project “My Head Is Not A Graveyard” which shading a light on the life under Al Assad family dictatorship.  His current AV installation “X-ray Syria” draws on footage from inside the Syrian conflict. X- Ray Syria was shown in several spaces and venue among them: The Naughton Gallery in Belfast and British Council London Third Space exhibition. 
Omareen is co-editor of Syria Speaks: Art and Culture from the Frontline (Saqi Books, 2014), and his articles and short stories have been published in English and Arabic.  In 2015 his work was featured in the Victoria & Albert’s exhibition, Disobedient Objects.
He has also curated and designed “Syria Pixels” installation, a series of films which included 35 one-shot, one-minute movies by Syrian filmmakers was shown at the Venice Biennale in August 2015.
