For our project “Kultur-Sofa”, the Goethe-Institut Belgium invites authors, comic artists and illustrators to present themselves and their work during a livestream on the Instagram channel of the Goethe-Institut Belgium. The artists are free to choose how they fill this period. We are delighted to welcome Lasse Wandschneider!
Lasse Wandschneider was born in Lübeck in 1987 and grew up there. He studied illustration in Breda (NL), Prague and Berlin. Today he lives and works in Berlin as an illustrator for various media and projects at home and abroad. He deals with printing techniques such as screen printing and risography, the self-publishing of zines, books and small print runs. His works explore the interfaces between comics and free drawings, abstraction and narration, naivety and clarity. He is interested in how a story can be told through the form of the comic - i.e. several successive images and the resulting temporal dimension, and through the combination with text - even with more abstract images, and what transports a drawing outside the depicted (i.e. only by line guidance or composition). His works are also regularly shown in exhibitions, most recently in Berlin, Gerswalde, Prague, Hamburg and Portland. His publishing debut 'Regen' was published by Reprodukt in 2016.
