In the framework of the Opening Halaqat Festival, we invite you together with Cinemamed to a public debate on the representation of the Arab region through the lens of cinema.

For the past ten years, Arab cinema has been making its mark all over the world, in the biggest festivals and on television. What are its major developments since the Arab Spring? What are the themes and concerns of filmmakers? What is the future of Arab cinema in artistic and economic terms, and its relationship with Europe?

These questions are the basis of the Halaqat debate on cinema with four selected panelists:
  • Samaher Alqadi, Egyptian director of the documentary AS I WANT
  • Ely Dagher, Lebanese director and artist
  • Fatma Cherif, director of the Gabes Cinema Fen Festival in Tunisia
  • Reda Benjelloun, director of the documentary series "Des Histoires Et Des Hommes" on the Moroccan channel 2M (via Zoom)
The panel discussion is moderated by Karima Saïdi, director, editor and film teacher.

The European project Halaqat is implemented by the Goethe-Institut in collaboration with Bozar - Centre for Fine Arts Brussels. Halaqat is co-funded by the European Commission (under the designation: EU-LAS CULTURE), the Goethe-Institut and Bozar.
