Outcomes of the Halaqat audiovisual residency in 2022

In 2021, six filmmakers drawn from the Arab diaspora in Belgium were selected to take part in the Halaqat audiovisual residency programme, in cooperation with Atelier Graphoui, Cinemaximiliaan and SoundImageCulture - SIC: Asaad Al-Hilali, Zohra Benhammou & Romy Nsabimana, Louay Dabous, Patrick Tass, Rebecca Tawk.

Over the course of 2022, the filmmakers worked on their projects, got to know each other, and were supported by professionals from the sector.

The evening’s programme includes a screening of their five works and Sophie Soukias’ documentary 3 Tales of Halaqat:
They call it taking a detour. When the Goethe-Institut and Bozar ask Sophie Soukias to cover the Halaqat program, the film director brings back three tales about art and its unsuspected powers. Working closely with the artists in residence, she composes – on site or remotely – short stories on the borders of the Arab and European worlds, reality and (science-)fiction, day and night.
