International Online Bookclub

At our international book club event today, we welcome Mareike Fallwickl, who will present her book Die Wut die bleibt (The Rage that Remains). The conversation will be led by Hanna Hannappel.

Mareike Fallwickl's new novel deals with the burden often dumped on women's shoulders, and women's confrontation with society's expectations of them. It's radical, awakening and empowering.

Helene, mother of three, gets up from the dinner table, goes to the balcony, and plunges to her death without a word. The family is in a state of shock. Suddenly, everything that has held them together until now is missing: love, care, security.

Helene's best friend Sarah, who both envied and pitied Helene because of her family, is drawn into the maelstrom of grief and chaos. Lola, Helene's oldest daughter, searches for a way to cope with her emotions and focuses on the emotion that is strongest: anger.

Three women: one evades what life demands of a mother, the other two - the daughter and the best friend - must find ways to bridge that gap. Their fates interweave in this moving and combative novel about what it means to be a woman in our society.

All are welcome to attend the live online event; it is not a requirement to have already read the book. Participation is free and the discussion will be held in German.
