Comic Strip Festival

The Berlin comic strip writer Flix has produced the first German Spirou comic book and at the same time marked the anniversary issue celebrating Spirou’s 80th birthday. In a lively and humorous way, he transports his readers with him to Berlin at the time of the division between East and West Berlin, where Spirou embarks on his latest adventure. The comic thus remains faithful to the old tradition of Spirou stories and the dynamic and soft kind of drawings, and the underlying jovialness and peacefulness of the main characters are maintained. However, typical Flix touches are woven into the story too: Breaking up the page structure and the emergence of a strong female character are new. In addition, Flix manages, remarkably, to portray the ice-cold harshness of the GDR regime without losing out on the comic’s light touch.

During the Comic Strip festival on 13–14 September 2019, Flix is coming to Brussels. The exhibition displays some excerpts from his comics and he will also be reading out loud from his work.
