The Eastern European Edit-a-thon
Where is the smallest country in the world located? What does it mean, if we are talking about the “IKEA-effect”? And what is the meaning of “scripophily”? Anyone who deals with questions like this or is, more general, in search of information should have a look to online-encyclopedia Wikipedia. In the German Wikipedia alone, you can find more than 2 million articles. How is an article created, when it´s getting serious and what is about licences and sources? On the occasion of the “digital month November” the Goethe-Institut Bulgaria stages the Eastern European Edit-a-thon. The Edit-a-thon will take place the 10th of November. Our aim is to answer all the questions about Wikipedia.
Participants from Serbia, Ukraine, Romania, Macedonia, Greece and of course Bulgaria are interested to share their knowledge with newbies, so in the end of the day they will be able to write their first article in Wikipedia. Goethe-Institut Bulgaria announces an open call for participation in the Eastern European Edit-a-thon, which will take place on Saturday, November 10th 2018, at Goethe-Institut in Sofia.
For the Edit-a-thon we are cooperating with Wikipedians from Bulgarian Wikipedia and Global Libraries Bulgaria Foundation.
Subject of the Edit-a-thon will be “European Heirlooms”. Aim of the day is to write and edit articles which should cover issues of European history, heritage or culture. Focus should be on the subject of libraries.
We offer 20 places for participation for newbies from Bulgaria. For people who are not from Sofia, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria will bear the costs for journey (only bus or train) and accommodation for two nights. During the Edit-a-thon we will offer catering services.
We are interested to share our knowledge, so we will have a film crew filming the event during the day.
