The Table with Benches

This urban furniture was made in the workshops of the ironworker Zdravko and the woodworker Berul in Stolipinovo.

The craftsmen in the neighbourhood are inventive. They know how to create beautiful things, but they are unknown to most Plovdivers. With this installation we want to show some of their abilities.

The installation is inspired by the habit of spontaneously meeting somewhere to exchange ideas. It all started with two old doors. One has been cleaned and restored to use as a large plate. The other was cut by us and Berul, reinforced and processed as benches for the table. Together with Zdravko we designed and realized the metal structure. We left the individual door elements visible to remind us of the previous use of the wood panels on tables and benches. At the end we painted the installation in bright, attractive and unusual colours. All this in two architecture workshops in Stolipinovo.

Miroslav, Dessislava, Donika, Valentin, Ilya, Ivan, Zhivka, Petya, Yavor, Kami, Freya and Gunda took part in the making of the table with benches under the expert guidance of Zdravko.

The seating is visible from afar. It invites you to sit in the cool shade of the trees, pause for a while, look around and start a conversation with a stranger. Immerse yourself in the everyday life of the neighbourhood.
