Nach mehreren Monaten des Umbaus ist die Bibliothek des Goethe-Instituts in Sofia wiedereröffnet. Sie hat ein neues Aussehen und eine neue Funktion erhalten – mit mehr Platz für Veranstaltungen, Besucher*innen und Literaturfreund*innen und einem Design das mobil, schlicht und modern gleichzeitig ist. Mit dem Umbau beauftragt wurde das bulgarische Architektenbüro Cachè Atelier.

After several months of refurbishment Goethe-Institut’s library is open again. Thanks to the architects from Cachè Atelier it now has a brand new interior and functions: it has more space to host events, visitors and lovers of literature and a design that is mobile, simple and modern at the same time.

Diversity and social sustainability

The idea behind the refurbishment was to make our library a library for everyone and as barrier-free as possible. Encounter and exchange are central to the concept of the new library. This applies also to events in cooperation with our partners.

An inclusive guidance system with contrasting colors and pictograms for dyslexics was developed. Guide dogs are welcome. We are a place of values, and inclusion and diversity are an expression of Germany’s cosmopolitan and enlightened image. Inclusion means for us to think for the others and is an attitude towards people with cognitive and/or physical disabilities.
