Amilcar Packer was born in Santiago de Chile in 1974 and lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil since 1982. He graduated in Philosophy by the University of São Paulo and holds a master degree in Clinical Psychology by the Pontifícia Universidade Catôlica de São Paulo (2015). Packer develops an artistic practice that operates reconfiguring the semantic field for the articulation of objects, architecture and the human body. His actions and interventions seek to change the grammar of social space by proposing relational fields attempting to disrupt hegemonic dominant discourses and devices, historically installed and crystallized in language, the urban organization of space, and the current normative standards of behavior.
Packer co-organized educational programs such as “Espitemic Risk” (several venuesand guests), São Paulo, 2016; “Molecular Revolution in Brazil in New York” (with Max Hinderer Cruz) at Ludlow 38, New York, U.S.A., 2014; “AJURI – Education, learning and production of knowledge in Specific Contexts”, Xapomi, Poraquêquará, Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Amazônia, Brazil and “Typewriter” (with Manuela Moscoso and CAPACETE) in São Paulo, both in 2013. He has participated as guest teacher in educational programs such as “From cannibal manifesto to manifesting anthropophagy - a Capacete seminar” for the Städelschule, Frankfurt, 2013; “Programa independiente de formación teórica y práctica” at Centro de Investigaciones Artisticas, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2013; “History Matter” at CCA-Lagos, Nigeria, 2012; “CAPACETE Summer University” 2012 and 2013, in Rio de Janeiro; “The Harbor” at Beta Local, San Juan, Puerto Rico, U.S.A., 2011; “Agulhas Negras: A Summer Session”, Campos do Jordão, Brazil, 2008; “On Reason and Emotion” - 2004 Sydney Biennale educational program, Hobart School of the Arts, Launceston School of the Arts, Australia; “1a Semana Pernambucana de Artes”, Recife, 2001, Pernambuco. In 2014, he co-founded P.A.C.A. a public seminars program in São Paulo, Brazil and in 2016 he started the Oficina de Imaginação Política, as part of the 32a São Paulo Art Biennial.
Since 2011, he has been developing a performative and discursive research-based project called Doris Criolla in which he investigates cultural, historical, political processes of hybridization in colonial and post-colonial contexts in dinners-presentations. Packer has also been systematizing boards and diagrams, which exhibit economical and symbolic systems of production and the circulation of energetic and stimulant products and plants related to colonial global economy exposing radical changes in the world’s landscape by the spread and imposition of intensive extensive monoculture.
