Biographie

Ana Hupe (1983) dedicates herself to build a contra-memory of the colonial archive, addressing immigration movements and exercising decolonization practices. She holds a PhD in Fine Arts by Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGAV-UFRJ) and is currently based in Berlin, where she studied with artist Hito Steyerl at Universität der Künste.

Her most recent projects are A lot of future for one single memory, solo show presented at Fundaj (Joaquim Nabuco Foundation), Recife, curated by Moacir dos Anjos after a two months residency; and Malungas, exhibition that happened simultaneously at Mario Kreuzberg Gallery, Berlin and at Paço das Artes, Sound and Image Museum, São Paulo. Both research-based projects question the traces of the colonial history in today’s societies and deal with the sense of community.

Among diverse collective exhibitions and residencies, Hupe took part at Kunstkvarteret Lofoten residency, in Norway; at Greatmore House Artstudios in Cape Town; won the prize Prêmio CCBB de Arte Contemporânea (2016), where she presented the solo show Readings to move the center, and was awarded by IPHAN ‘Prêmio Honra ao Mérito Arte e Patrimônio’, 2014.

She is currently artist in residence at Vila Sul, Goethe-Institut Salvador.
