Anta Helena Recke is a German-Senegalese artist. Before the beginning to study Scenic Arts at the University of Hildesheim, Germany in 2011 she worked in theatre-pedagogy at the emancipatory children-theatre GRIPS in Berlin. At university she developed several transdisciplinary performances and curatorial projects in the field of sound and music. As a performer and assistant director/choreographer she worked with Ana Borralho & João Galante at Culturgest Foundation in Lisbon and Gintersdorfer/Klaßen in many international venues. She was assistant-director at Münchner Kammerspiele where she worked, amongst others, with Susanne Kennedy, Philippe Quesne and Amir Reza Koohestani.

Currently she works as an artist and theatre-maker in different constellations, including with Daniel Cremer, Khoikonnexion & KANTE, Julia*n Meding, Jeremy Nedd, Schwabinggradballett, Joana Tischkau, Julian Warner. Her works, conceptual art in the form of theatre-performances, circle around the marking and non-repetition of normativity and conventions of perception. Her work LOVEPIECE (2016), that she developed within the framework of the treibstoff-Theatertage in Basel, Switzerland, was invited to several venues in Germany and Switzerland. In 2017 she received the theatre-scholarship of the city of Munich for a research-trip to South Africa. In the same year she realized the piece MITTELREICH at Münchner Kammerspiele, which then was selected for the Berliner Theatertreffen 2018.  She was voted upcoming director of the year 2018 by the professional magazine “Theater heute" and was part of the group-residency veiculoSUR, that took place in Chile, Brazil, France and Germany in collaboration with several international partners such as SESC São Paulo and NT8H Lyon. Her most recent work ANGSTPIECE, which she developed at sophiensaele Berlin, was selected for the radikal jung Festival 2019 in Munich.
