Juliana dos Santos
Visual artist, master in art/education and PhD student in Arts at the Instituto de Artes da Universidade Estadual Paulista UNESP where he is part of the coordination of the Human Rights Commission and the Nucleus of Black Researchers of Unesp, Nupe-IA. She conducts research in art/education and ruptures of hegemonic paradigms as a focus on decolonization of educational practices. In the last years she has been organizing exhibitions, courses, workshops, lectures, teaching formation activities and consulting in several national and international institutions, among them the Nucleus of Ethnic-Racial Education of the Secretaria Municipal de Educação of São Paulo, Sesc, Vera Cruz Institute, Federal University of Ceará, Museu Afro Brasil, MAM-SP, Masp, CCSP, Google Brazil and the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna in Austria and Bouge B festival Antwerp Belgium. She has been a guest lecturer in the post-graduate program in Art History at Faculdade Belas Artes and is currently a substitute teacher at the Instituto de Artes da Unesp.
She has been working in video, painting, performance, photography and multimedia. Juliana has been investigating the blue color of the flower Clitória Ternátea as a possibility of color as a sensitive experience in the process of expanding the senses. Her research takes place at the intersection between art, history and education, with interest in the way black artists have engaged in practices to deal with the limits of representation. She held her first solo exhibition in 2018, as an invited artist/teacher at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts residency. Her first national solo exhibition was for the 2019 Paço das Artes Project Season. She was awarded third place 16 Visual Arts Salon of Ubatuba. This year she was selected at the 12 Abre-Alas of Gentil Carioca gallery's (RJ). Still this year, she participated in the 12th edition of the Mercosur Biennial and is part of the Sesc Sorocaba Arts Triennial team (2020/2021).
