Playful, committed, and colorful like the queer movement itself: beginning at the end of May 2019, eight branches of the Goethe-Institut in North America and Schwules Museum Berlin present the exhibition Queer as German Folk. From more than 100 digitized exhibits from the Schwules Museum, the exhibition can be created “on demand” at any desired location and enriched with local components. Documents and archive materials become objects that form structured or anarchic installations and invite the public to interact. The exhibition’s fanzine will be published in four languages: German, English, French, and Spanish.
Birgit Bosold from the Schwules Museum Berlin curated the exhibition with the support of Carina Klugbauer, also from the Schwules Museum. The exhibition design was developed by the Berlin agency chezweitz. The agency had already designed the exhibition Homosexualität_en, which was shown in 2015 in the German Historical Museum and the Schwules Museum Berlin.
