The Goethe-Institut Toronto is looking for a full-time employee to join their team on October 19, 2020 (100%, 38.5 hours/week).

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany on a global scale. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. We also foster knowledge about Germany by providing information on its culture, society and politics.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement interdisciplinary projects in the subject area of literature, information, arts and language in cooperation with local partners
  • Develop, implement and evaluate communication strategies and programs
  • Develop, coordinate and implement the web presence of the Goethe-Institut Toronto including coordination of the web activities of the Goethe-Institut Toronto, including implementing social media and communication campaigns
  • Engaging with potential participants and stakeholders and fostering relationships with existing ones, initiate and implement outreach and communication, community relations, and communications activities
  • Liaison and cooperation with information and knowledge providers and current and future partner organizations in Toronto and Western Canada
  • Financial planning and reporting for projects of the Information Division

Your Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completed Post-Secondary Degree
  • Work experience in the cultural sector (3 years minimum)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the arts, culture and literary scene of Toronto and Canada and in German arts, culture and literature, knowledge of cultural and socio-political discourses in Germany and Canada
  • Motivated to contribute to the purpose, vision and principles of the Goethe-Institut
  • Strong organizational and project management skills (including budget management)
  • Able to work effectively with people of varied professional and personal backgrounds,
    ability to establish cooperative working relationships, a proactive and resourceful teammate
  • Knowledge of image processing, content management systems and MS Office applications
  • Excellent knowledge of English, written and oral; knowledge of German, written and oral, is an asset
  • Able to occasionally work weekends and evenings


  • The salary is based on the local salary scheme of the Goethe-Institut in Canada. Work conditions are based on Canadian law.
