The reading group « Alexander Kluge » will discuss texts and short films by German literary author and filmmaker, television producer and theorist Alexander Kluge (* 1932). The main topic is the phenomenon of coldness. The basis for the discussions are the films and stories compiled on Wer sich traut, reißt die Kälte vom Pferd (Who Dares Unseats the Cold, DVD and booklet, Filmedition Suhrkamp 2010).

At the fourth meeting we will discuss Alexander Kluge's use of historical pictorial material, with special attention to the contributions to "Cold and War".

A trilingual glossary will be developed in the course of the four sessions.

Organized by DAAD visiting professor Maria Zinfert, with support of the Goethe-Institut Montreal, the Département de littératures et de langues du monde of the Université de Montréal, the reading group is connected to the seminar ALL6242 « Littérature et médias : Froid, Glace et Neige ».

The texts will be made available.
