On the occasion of the Bauhaus centennial, this broad-ranging documentary highlights the history and influence of this utopian architecture and design school and accompanying social movement.

Founded in 1919 in Weimar by Walter Gropius, Bauhaus aimed to unite sculpture, painting, design and architecture into a single combined discipline. Bauhaus constituted one of the most significant contributions to everyday 20th-century culture and contemporary design. Confronted with the social conditions of the time, as well as the experience of World War I, the movement dealt with the political and social connotations of design from the outset. Thus, Bauhaus history is not only the history of art, but of an era that stretches from early 20th century to today.
