When Johannes abruptly breaks up with her in front of the Berlin City Museum, all Undine manages to say is, “If you leave me, I’ll have to kill you.” Still, it doesn’t take long for the architectural historian to fall in love with Christophe, a mysterious young diver, in an encounter tinged with magic realism. But like an angry nymph, Undine is still haunted by the heartbreak of her failed relationship. Working again with Paula Beer (best actress at Berlin 2020) and Franz Rogowski from Transit, Christian Petzold delivers a sensuous, romantic drama where reality and fantasy mingle to form an intriguing aquatic legend.

Silver Bear for Best Actress (Paula Beer) - Berlin Film Festival“An odd new beauty from one of Germany’s best directors.” The Hollywood Reporter

“Petzold’s ambiguously hopeful film is a declaration of love” The British Film Institute
