IDO 03.08. - 07.08.2020 takes place digitally

Millions of high school students worldwide are invited to take part in the Internationalen Deutscholympiade (IDO) under the motto "DABEI SEIN!! More than 100 learners of German between the ages of 14 and 17 qualify in national preliminary rounds in over 50 countries and will participate in the IDO in digital format on all five continents. After Berlin (2016) and Freiburg (2018), the IDO 2020 will take place for the first time as an innovative digital format with reference to Dresden. The winners from the preliminary rounds will compete for the title of the world's best learners of German in three levels.

The IDO aims to inspire young people abroad for the German language, to strengthen tolerance among each other and to open doors to German culture, economy and civil society for the participants.

The final will take place from 03. to 07. August 2020 in the digital space with reference to Dresden.

The IDO is organised by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the IDV, the International German Teachers' Association.

The International German Olympics not only inspire committed young people abroad for the German language and the Olympic idea, but also strengthen their mutual tolerance and promote a Germany open to the world. The finale in the digital space is accompanied by an extensive supporting programme and offers, among other things, digital encounters with young people, companies, universities, artists and citizens from the Dresden region or Germany.

In addition, participants can expect an exclusive concert, numerous cultural events and an innovative competition. Friends, parents and acquaintances of yours can be invited to many of the live programme items. Together with you, we would like to make IDO 2020 a major global digital event that has no equal.
