In 2020, the Berlin International Film Festival was one of the last major film festivals to take place in person before confinement. The two films on the programme are full of joie de vivre and make you long for sunshine and summer and a breath of fresh air! The programme reflects the lives and loves of different generations of women in Germany, in two places that could not be more geographically opposed. Here, the dreams of Kreuzberg's youth meet the ideals of the Bavarian hippie movement and, although there are now almost 60 years between these generations, it becomes clear that the desires of that time are in fact also those of today.

In her intimate documentary Walchensee Forever, Janna Ji Wonders portrays four generations of women from her own family, whose lives revolve around a traditional Bavarian inn on Lake Walchen. The film won the Bavarian Film Award for Best Documentary and the Compass Perspektive Award at last year's Berlin International Film Festival. Leonie Krippendorf's Cocoon, which was also screened by the Festival Nouveau Cinéma in 2020, tells the tender love story of two young women during a Berlin summer, between afternoons at the swimming pool and evenings on the roofs of the German capital. The film features the crème de la crème of young German actresses, such as Lena Urzendowsky and Lena Klenke, who are known from the Netflix series How to sell drugs online (fast). As well as Jella Haase, who we enjoyed in Suck Me Shakespeer.

Both films will be presented in their original German language with French and English subtitles, and will be available across Canada online from April 9 to 19 on the Cinéma du Parc platform.
