STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Join us this month in our Deutscher Filmklub, we will be showing
Stations of the Cross by Dietrich Brüggemann.
Maria is 14-years-old and lives with her parents and three siblings in a small town in southern Germany. Her devout family has raised her according to the radical Catholic teachings of the (fictional) Society of St. Pius, whose fundamentalism leaves no room for individual development. Maria identifies with the religious beliefs she has been taught in church and is ready to make great sacrifices in order to demonstrate her faith and become a saint. The teen proceeds through the Stations of the Cross, just as Jesus did.
Dietrich Brüggemann was born in 1976 in Munich. He studied film directing at the University for Film and TV Konrad Wolf in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Since his film
Warum läuft Herr V. Amok? (2003) (
Why Does Herr V. Run Amok?), his short movies have been successful at numerous festivals. He has won the New Berlin Film Award, Studio Hamburg Award for Young Talents 2007 and the Audience Award at the Festival of German Films for
Neun Szenen (2006) (
Nine Scenes). At the Berlinale 2014, he received the Silver Bear for his film,
Stations of the Cross (2014) for the best screenplay.
