“A refreshingly quirky perspective on a heavy subject.” – Variety
Hoping to distract herself from heartbreak, Marie travels to Fukushima in the aftermath of the nuclear disaster to join a charitable group Clowns4Help. Immersed in her own problems, she struggles to distract elderly survivors when she meets an ex-geisha, forming a prickly friendship with her. Beautifully shot in black-and-white, Doris Dörrie’s new film moves fluidly between human drama and comedy, with superbly judged performances from the leads.
