Simon Martin
Simon Martin © Simon Martin Born in Rouyn-Noranda (Québec), Simon Martin (1981) is a composer and producer of contemporary concert music. As the founding director of Projections libérantes (2011), he has completed three productions to this day.
Following in the footsteps of American composers Harry Partch, La Monte Young and James Tenney, Simon Martin’s music increasingly focuses on natural intonation. His concert pieces, always full of drama, retain part of the ambition found in the large formats of German post-Romanticism.
In 2016, Simon Martin was presented with $10,000 by Le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec as the winner of the 2014-2015 Opus Prize — Composer of the year. He also participated in the Composers’ exchange and residencies for new music / Québec - Dresden (Hellerau) in 2016. This exchange programme is organized by the Goethe-Institut Montreal, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec,  Le Vivier – Carrefour des musiques nouvelles and HELLERAU - Europäisches Zentrum Der Künste Dresden.
