Krautrock legend on stage with Joseph Shabason, XAMBUCA & Kat Estacio

Hans-Joachim Roedelius is a guest of the Goethe-Institut

German experimental and electronic musician Hans-Joachim Roedelius - on tour with the international multimedia project XAMBUCA - will be joined by Toronto-based musicians Joseph Shabason & Kat Estacio.

HANS-JOACHIM ROEDELIUS
For a good part of the past 50 years, Roedelius has been responsible for some of the most beautiful and singular electronic music. Alongside Dieter Moebius, he's known as one half of pioneering German electronic duo Cluster, who made records with Brian Eno. He was also a member of celebrated supergroup Harmonia. His discography spans an enormous breadth of sounds from pastoral ambience to forbidding futurist abstraction, from pithy groove-driven vignettes to contemplative chamber music.
Roedelius is a tireless innovator and his current output remains as relevant and intriguing as ever.

JOSEPH SHABASON
One might know Shabason for his extensive work as a saxophonist for a number of lauded bands DIANA and Destroyer among them. This past year Shabason released solo record "Aytche" (Western Vinyl) which gave voice to his own soundworld: a soft-focus lush-but-tidy psychedelia. Working from a base of processed saxophone and gently percolating synthesizers, he's crafted a resonant blend of organic instrumentation and electronics.

XAMBUCA
XAMBUCA is the cryptic multimedia conspiracy between Asheville-based musician Chandra Shukla and video artist Geo Lynx (who won't be joining for this performance). Shukla has collaborated of Genesis P-Orridge in projects such as Psychic TV / Splinter Test/ Thee Majesty as well Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound) and has built an artistic landscape shares those artists' penchants for aesthetic anomalousness and sonic disorientation.

KAT ESTACIO
Kat Estacio is a leading figure among a number of young Pinay artists presently exploring the intersection between the classical gong music of the Philippines (kulintang) and various forms of experimentalism. Estacio is a member of celebrated Toronto kulintang ensemble Pantayo but also performs and records on her own crafting intimate and immersive musical spaces that blend the distinct timbre of traditional metallophones with various synthetic textures.
